Melis studied fashion and style in La Salle Fashion School of Design in 2000 and has a BS degree in Econometrics from Marmara University. She started her career as a style editor in Harpers Bazaar in 2003 and continued in Madame Figaro Turkey. She then became the fashion editor of Harpers Bazaar in 2006. She has been working as the fashion director of Elle Turkey since 2010. She keeps working as a consultant in various creative projects.
